An individual who laced candy with sedative and provided them to children at a summer camp in the area has admitted sexual crimes against two children who were nine and ten years old.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and one adult became sick at the facility in the summer month.

The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.

However, he denied one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old child.

The accused was remanded in custody prior to a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, handling the case, outlined Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.

She explained his victims were under-privileged children who were attending a summer program which he managed.

The defendant conducted a "treat game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor stated, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to eat sweets "rapidly".

She stated to the judge the man had conducted this practice with the boys "for many years", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She said the man had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had worries in summer 2025.

The prosecutor continued: "In the summer" his stepchild had suspicions about the situation, with valid cause.

"They decided to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

The legal counsel explained objects including lubricant, ointment and medical needles were located, and his stepchild notified the police about his worries.

She stated the defendant proceeded to engage in the "candy game" with six children that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the next day.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that stage," she added.

The police watchdog, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was examining law enforcement's management of the situation.

The prosecutor explained the children were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the stepson contacted the law enforcement again.

She stated Ruben then conducted the "treat game" in a area of five minors.
